Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has received a big boost ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Etihad with Marcus Rashford set to return from injury, according to reports.
The Red Devils have had a number of niggles and problems beforehand, with Christian Eriksen having to play as a false nine at the start of the season and Anthony Martial being slapped twice.
Rashford was the latest victim, with a muscle injury that saw him miss United’s Europa League clash against FC Sheriff as well as the last international break – where he probably would have received a recall from England had he been fit.
Ten Hag was wary of putting up a timestamp when the attacker could return to action, but it appears he shook the problem off in time to record it. Manchester City on Sunday.
According to The sunRashford wins his fitness battle ahead of the weekend and feels ready to play in the showdown at the Etihad.
He has already returned to training with the United players not involved in the recent international break, with the rest of the squad returning to Carrington on Wednesday and Thursday.
It would be a huge boost for Ten Hag to have Rashford back and available now that the 24-year-old has started the season in solid form.
He has already scored three goals and provided two assists in the Premier League in just six games – a significant contribution every 104 minutes – and his speed and direct gait are seen as a huge weapon against City.
Ten Hag hopes Martial is also fit for the trip to the Etihad, although Harry Maguire appears doubtful after an injury sustained when he played for England against Germany.
Three Lions skipper Harry Kane revealed that the centre-back was forced to play the final phase of the 3-3 draw practically on one leg, and Maguire could be on the sidelines for some time – although he could take his place in the starting line-up van Ten Hag had already lost XI.
‘hey [Maguire] had a serious injury there at the end,” the Tottenham striker revealed.
“He played for another five, ten minutes, on almost one leg. Great character of him, I’m really proud of that.’
