They were left stacked with options in the back, but where Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane were first choice last season.

Bailly and Jones have since started just eight games across all competitions, with Tuanzebe failing to impress during loan spells with Aston Villa and Napoli.

Meanwhile, United are close to sealing Martinez’s £46million signing, with Ajax accepting they cannot keep the Argentina international.

A number of offers were rejected on both sides, but Ajax United now seem poised to bring him to Old Trafford, having also reportedly agreed personal terms.

United are also hoping to secure a deal for Christian Eriksen, who could join the club for the second leg of their pre-season tour.

Talks are also underway with Frenkie de Jong, with United determined to bring the Dutch international to the club.

United are said to have agreed a £55m fee in advance with £16.9million in extras for the midfielder, but the deals remain complicated as de Jong owes £14.3million in deferred wages.
