Christian Eriksen will be out for about three months with an ankle injury, Manchester United have confirmed.
The Danish midfielder suffered the problem in a challenge from Andy Carroll in United’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Reading on Saturday.
Eriksen left Old Trafford on crutches and the club have now confirmed he suffered ligament damage. The Dane will be absent until the end of April or the beginning of May.
United confirmed the news in a statement, saying: “Christian Eriksen is expected to be out for an extended period due to an ankle injury suffered during our FA Cup win over Reading on Saturday.
Our Danish midfielder was withdrawn in the second half of the 3-1 win after a challenge from Reading striker Andy Carroll.
“As the investigation continues, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen will likely be out until late April or early May.
Eriksen’s absence will be a great disappointment to manager Erik ten Hag and the fans, given the consistency of his performance throughout the season so far.
“However, there is hope that Christian can return in time to play a part in the closing stages of the season. We all wish Christian the best of luck and a speedy recovery!”
