Manchester United should sign Richarlison and not his Tottenham teammate Harry Kaneaccording to former Red Devils star Kleberson.
United are having a very good first season Eric ten Hagwith their recent Carabao Cup triumph keeping them in view for an unprecedented ‘quadruple’.
However, there is still an obvious weakness with the striker position as the only two natural No. 9s on the roster are Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial.
The former has played well but has only scored once since signing in January and is only on loan until the end of the season, while the latter is a fine striker in his time but can’t stop getting injured.
As such, Ten Hag will be in the market for a striker this summer, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Spurs legend Kane the names most associated with Old Trafford.
Many believe Kane, whose contract expires in 2024, should leave his boyhood club for United, giving the striker, who has scored 201 Premier League goals so far, a much better chance of finally winning a trophy.
But former Brazil midfielder Kleberson thinks United should target another Spurs forward, tellingly OLBG“I would really like to see Richarlison play for Man Utd. He’s the kind of striker who could help United a lot.
“Especially with teams under pressure, he can do a low block, he can put pressure on the central defender and he can get into the penalty area. He has played in the Premier League for many years, he understands the rules and he is a hard-working player.
“As Man Utd get more structure and consistency and win more games, I think Richarlison is a player who can do a lot for the club.”
The 25-year-old moved from Everton to north London just last summer, in a deal worth £50 million, but is enduring a nightmare campaign in which he struggled with injuries and failed to break into Spurs’ front three for Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski.
Apart from a brace against Marseille in the Champions League, he failed to score a single goal, but he showed his qualities at the World Cup, scoring three times for Brazil.
“When Richarlison played at Everton, I think he should have gone to Manchester United instead of Tottenham Hotspur. It could have been different,” added Kleberson, winner of the 2002 World Cup.
“Now he doesn’t play much and doesn’t get many chances. He competes with guys at Tottenham who are great players. He’s on the bench, but he’s competing with these big players.
“As a club you sometimes have to take a risk because he’s not a bad player, he’s a great player. He plays for the Brazil national team, he just needs playing time and some trust from the coach and the team.
“I think he can easily do a great job for United.”
