A major search took place Saturday night after it was reported that someone was struggling in the water. The group was swimming in Salford Quay, Manchester. Police have not yet publicly identified the boy, but the body is believed to be his.
Following a statement on Sunday, GMP said: “The body of a teenage boy has been recovered in Salford Quays after we were called yesterday for reports of a person getting into trouble in the water.
“Saturday. Shortly after 6.15 pm the police were called and the emergency services of GMFRS and NWAS were present.
“Unfortunately, a body was found in the water later that evening and recovered overnight by specialist partners. While formal identification has not yet taken place, the body is believed to belong to a 16-year-old boy who was last seen wrestling.” in the water after swimming with friends.
“His family has been kept informed and supported by specially trained officers during this deeply disturbing time. The investigation is ongoing, but detectives from Swinton CID are confident – at this stage – that there are no suspicious circumstances, and a file is available be prepared for the coroner.”
