Manchester UnitedSergej Milinkovic-Savic’s opening bid for Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will fall far short of the Italians’ appreciation of the midfielder.

Milinkovic-Savic, a target for Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese’s time at Old Trafford, he has spent the past eight seasons in the Italian capital.

He now plans to leave the club as he fears at the age of 27 that he is entering a crucial phase of his career where it could be his last chance to make a dream transfer to the Premier League.

The Serb is more of a box-to-box operator, but he is seen by United as an alternative to Frenkie de Jong.

United have reached a £63m deal to sign the Dutchman, but he has no intention of leaving the Camp Nou and he still owes £17m in deferred wages.

Barcelona are refusing to make that full payment and, to make matters worse, they are asking that De Jong take another pay cut if he wants to stay with the club.

United’s deal is now in serious doubt, hence their interest in Milinkovic-Savic.

While the Red Devils will wait as long as possible to sign De Jong, they have discussed a move to Old Trafford with the Serbian team and are preparing a £42million offer for the midfielder.

however, the Daily mail say Lazio want closer to £60 million for the Serbian international and they will stand by their valuation.

Erik ten Hag wanted his transfer business to be completed before the start of the season, but with just over a week to go until United face Brighton on opening weekend, he is still targeting a whopping three signings.

Cristiano Ronaldo reiterated his desire to leave the club during a meeting with Ten Hag on Tuesday, but United insist he is not for sale.
