Manuel Neuer has spoken out after his shocking howl cost Bayern Munich in the match Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.

Bayern were just minutes away from an all-German Champions League final Borussia Dortmund as they led Madrid 3-2 after Alphonso Davies' stunning opener at the Bernabeu.

But Neuer, who had made a number of brilliant saves on the night, then made a big mistake, sending Vinicius Junior's goal into the path of Joselu, who struck to level the score in the 88th minute.

Extra time beckoned, but Joselu then scored an injury-time winner send Bernabeu wild and Bayern Munich crash out of the Champions League.

It was a devastating moment for Neuer, one of Bayern Munich's greatest ever players, who was looking to win the Champions League for a third time at the age of 38.

“Anyone who has ever played football knows how I feel now,” the German veteran told DAZN after the match.

'The fact that we were eliminated in the final phase, after we were 1-0 up until the 85th minute, is extremely bitter.

'We had taken one step towards London, we saw ourselves in the final and now I am at a loss for words. It is extremely bitter for me.

'I expected the ball to land a little differently on my chest, but it went a little higher and it was difficult to hold on to it. And then Joselu was there faster and it was difficult to defend.

'For a goalkeeper who has been around for a while, I have already experienced that, but the goal was brutal.'

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, meanwhile, described Real Madrid's first goal as the result of a 'very unusual mistake' by Neuer.

“We're almost done, it's almost time and there was a very unusual mistake from our best player for the equalizer and then we conceded the second in stoppage time,” he said.

“Once you get through it in the 88th minute, you see the end of the tunnel. Was it our very best match? No. But we didn't have to be perfect, we just had to be good enough for the moment.

'The moment we had one player out with cramp, we conceded a goal that we normally would never do with our goalkeeper. In the end you have to accept the result.'

Real Madrid, fourteen-time winners in this competition, will take on Dortmund in the Champions League final after their match 2-0 aggregate win in the semi-final over PSG.

Dortmund, which is only fifth in the Bundesliga, became European champions in 1997 and will play its first final since 2013 at Wembley Stadium in London on June 1.
