Bale, 32, confirmed the Hollywood end to his glamorous career on Saturday night.

The former Real Madrid star tweeted “See you soon, Los Angeles” after agreeing to an initial one-year contract.

And the Wales captain’s shock link Stateside in a free way to prepare for the World Cup was praised by Collison.

The former West Ham midfielder said: “This is a great move for Gareth. I’m really happy for him.

“It fits very well and the fans here will enjoy watching him play.

“He had such a fantastic career and I am sure he feels he has so much football left in him.

“I’m sure there were a lot of clubs interested, but Los Angeles could be a game made in heaven.”

The five-time Champions League winner, among other things, turned down the hometown club Cardiff before sealing his box office move to Western Conference leaders LAFC.

Bale will fly to California this week and plans to get himself in a rush for Wales’ first World Cup appearance in 64 years.

Ironically, the former Southampton and Spurs star has his sights set on leading his country out in their opening match in Qatar against the USA on November 21.

Bale’s deal will be confirmed when the MLS transfer window reopens on July 7.

And he would be eligible the next day to make his debut – along with new son Giorgio Chiellini – against opponents LA Galaxy.

The regular MLS season ends on October 9 with a play-off final on November 5 – 16 days before Wales face the USA in Doha.

Collison, 33, who has been coaching in the United States since 2019, added: “The move will prepare him for the World Cup and that is good news for Wales and Rob Page.

“Everyone who is associated with Wales wants to see a fit and fired Gareth Bale in Qatar and hopefully this step will help.

“You just have to look at the competitiveness in the MLS and some of the players who attracted the league.

“The league is only getting better.”
