Media should not be a scapegoat for your failure, #Media #shouldnt #scapegoat #failure Welcome to OLASMEDIA TV NEWSThis is what we have for you today:
The well-known Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has criticized the federal government for threatening to punish Trust TV and BBC for documenting documentaries about insecurity in the country.
Recall that Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed said on Thursday 28 July that Trust TV and the BBC would be sanctioned for documentaries about banditry that he said were “glorified activities of terrorism and banditry in Nigeria”.
Gumi responded in a statement on Friday, July 29, accusing the federal government of attempting to blackmail media houses to justify the “glaring failure” after wasting more than $16 billion over the past seven years with no commensurate result on security. .
Read the statement;
“FG’s attempt to find a scapegoat to justify its blatant failure after wasting more than $16 billion over the past seven years without any commensurate results on security and efforts to blackmail certain media organizations for their patriotism in the reporting the crisis is unfortunate and must be resisted by all responsible media organizations.
“What is happening in Nigeria today, especially in the northwest, as clearly captured by the BBC, is more of an ethnic war and retaliatory killings and attacks due to the government’s failure to address well-documented cases of injustice that were initially were inflicted on the Fulanis.
“What do you expect from a society (Fulani) that has been left in utter ignorance and lack of education, especially when their primary livelihoods (livestock) have been completely zipped by other criminal elements inside and outside our security forces without any effort from the government to to tackle the injustice.
“As I speak to you now, the rustling of the cattle has not ceased. Many law-abiding Fulanis have fallen victim to the official extortion of their cows. I have well-documented evidence involving some security agents, which I personally intervened. How do you as a government expect to deal with insecurity, especially with regard to Fulani bandits without dealing with such cases of extortion and rustling?
He added;
“If a Commander in Chief rewards failure by appointing ambassadors to a system and society that records heightened attacks, when security forces can’t even protect Abuja and especially when the Guards Brigade can’t even protect itself from talking about the president, why the blame the media for such failure and inability to report it?”
