Meghan and Harry urge to swear off Sussex titles ‘immediately’ | Royal | News

After stepping down from the royal family, Prince Harry and Megan Markle retained their titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex despite losing their HRH status. However, some 97 percent of Express.co.uk readers now believe the couple should relinquish their titles. found a new poll. During their Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, the couple shared some of the challenges leading up to their decision to break away from the firm, with Harry revealing they were willing to give up their duchy in the process.

During the fifth episode of the six-part series, Harry explained to viewers how he had been looking forward to moving his family to New Zealand and then South Africa, but that both of their plans had been revealed beforehand.

In early 2020, Harry and Meghan planned to move to Canada with their seven-month-old son Archie. Harry shared how his father asked him: King Charles IIIto put their plans in writing and send repeated emails on January 1, 2, and 3.

He said: “In one I said if it didn’t work out we would be willing to give up our Sussex titles if the need arises. That was the plan.

“We thought it would be good to give ourselves some breathing space, but we were also very passionate about continuing our work in the Commonwealth in support of the Queen.”

In answer, Express.co.uk conducted a poll which ran from 11 a.m. on Friday, December 16 to 11 a.m. on Friday, December 23, asking readers, “Should Harry and Meghan revoke their titles?”

A total of 10,548 votes were cast and the vast majority of readers, 97 percent (10,174 people), answered “yes” in favor of Harry and Meghan giving up their titles.

Another three percent (335 people) said “no” they shouldn’t, while 39 people said they didn’t know anyway.

In the dozens of comments to the left below the corresponding article, readers shared their thoughts on the titles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

However, some readers said they didn’t think Harry and Meghan’s titles made an impact, and so, as username ginandtonic reasoned, “it doesn’t matter what title they have”.

Similarly, username oneknightinbangkok said, “It doesn’t matter if they have titles or not.”

Harry and Meghan were awarded the Dukedom of Sussex by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip on their wedding day on May 19, 2018. They were also honored with the Earl and Countess of Dumbarton and Baron and Baroness Kilkeel.

Despite being able to confer titles, the monarch has no power to remove them without the approval of parliament. An amendment to the law would therefore be necessary to revoke the Duchy of Sussex. But many have suggested that King Charles III is not interested in this.
