Meghan Markle ‘is not a victim’ as Duchess ‘ruthlessly’ used royal title for her own gain | Royal | News

Mr Gardiner took to Twitter to cover the Duchess of Sussex following the release of excerpts from Tom Bower’s new book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors, published in The Times. The excerpt describes Prince Charles and the Queen’s frustration and insistence that: Meghan recovering from her relationship with her estranged father and the events leading up to the now infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Meghan apologized for not being able to see her father, which Bower said left the senior Royals perplexed and potentially frustrated.

An extract in The times reads: “The conference call ended with both the senior royals [the Queen and Prince Charles] perplexed. “I was particularly sensitive,” Meghan later admitted, “because I had married into the family very recently and wanted to please them.”

In turn, Harry was concerned that Meghan needed protection. He sympathized with her distaste for the palace’s keen sense of reverence and hierarchy.

It adds that Meghan appeared “isolated and vulnerable” and claims that no other member of the royal family “has suffered as much shame from their own family as Meghan”.

However, some disagreed with the assessment that Meghan was a victim. Former assistant to Margret Thatcher and Telegraph employee Nile Gardiner slammed the Duchess on Twitter.

He said: “Meghan Markle is not a victim. She has relentlessly used her royal title to undermine the royal family and the British monarchy, to advance her own business, media and political agenda.”

According to Bower, Meghan felt increasingly isolated in response to criticism and despised comparisons to the Cambridges, who seemed “perfect”.

Meghan was jealous of Kate Middleton and felt she wasn’t getting the “recognition and generosity” she deserved.

After a tour to Australia, where Prince Harry increasingly invited comparisons between his wife and his mother Princess Diana, Meghan is said to have become increasingly convinced she possessed the leadership qualities she thought the royal family so desperately needed.

Tensions between the Sussexes and Cambridges mounted as Mr Bowden claims Prince Harry and Meghan believed the other couple was “jealous” of their success on their Australian tour.

Meghan’s US advisers and agents are said to have told Meghan that she and Prince Harry could “reap the same benefits” as the Obamas — with several deals earning them tens of millions of dollars — if they took advantage of the Sussex brand.

An excerpt in The Times reads: “The Sussex brand, Meghan was assured, presented the same global opportunities as those reaped by the Obamas.

“Their first step should be a big interview. Oprah Winfrey waited.’

In early 2020, the pair announced their intention to step down as working Royals, in March they appeared in an all-encompassing interview with Oprah Winfrey, which is said to have infuriated the Royal Family.

Prince Harry is said to be working on his memoir and the couple has signed multimillion-dollar contracts with Netflix and Spotify, although Meghan’s show Pearl has been dropped by the streaming giant.
