Meghan Markle ‘makes the right noises’ if she wants to pursue a political career, says expert

Meghan Markle “definitely makes the right noises” when it comes to a potential career in American politics, according to royal expert Russell Myers.

I spoke today on the Lorraine program and the remarks Meghan (40) made to Vogue over the weekend about the recall of Roe v. Wade during a conversation with feminist writer and activist Gloria Steinem (88) and journalist Jessica Yellin.

The Duchess, who lives in Montecito, California, with her husband, Prince Harry, 37, and their children Archie, three, and Lilibet, one, said all men should join women in the fight to protect abortion rights, and added that Harry was a feminist, and he reacted angrily to the Supreme Court’s ruling.

The conversation sparked rumors that the royal may be planning to enter politics, which Russell said he thinks is likely.

He said: ‘Prince Harry and Megan moved to the United States.

“They have their financial freedom. They got their essential freedom from the royal family so that they could talk about political issues.

“And definitely, Megan spoke to Vogue over the weekend and talked about Roe versus Wade, a very, very controversial abortion law that was repeated in the US.”

Meghan also hinted that a trip to the political capital may be on the cards, suggesting that she and Gloria “would soon take a trip to DC together” during the Vogue talk.

Referring to this, Russell said: ‘Now Megan said it, you know [she] may be in Washington soon.

‘So she has political ambitions? I think she does. And she definitely rubs shoulders with the right people and makes the right noises.

“So, you know, sometimes it might not seem so ridiculous that she might be standing for office because she’s making sure the right noises.”

During the conversation with Vogue at the weekend, Meghan said all men should join women in the fight to protect abortion rights.

“Men need to speak out at this moment and beyond, because these are decisions that affect relationships, families and communities in general,” she said.

“They can target women, but the consequences affect us all.

‘My husband and I have talked a lot about it over the last few days. He’s also a feminist. ‘

Steinem, who was approached by Markle in 2020 when the Duchess realized she was hiding near their home in California during the pandemic, said she could confirm that Harry was deeply interested in women’s rights.

She called the couple ‘chosen family’.

“His reaction last week was just like mine,” Markle said.

‘I know that for so many women there is currently a sentiment of despair. But again, we must team up and not be disgusted. We have to do the work. ‘

The mother of two said it was important to ‘normalize conversations about the things that affect our lives and bodies’, referring to her own decision to talk about her own miscarriage in November 2020.

“It’s about women’s physical safety,” she said.

‘It’s also about economic justice, individual autonomy and who we are as a society. No one should be forced to make a decision that they do not want to make, or are unsafe, or endanger their own lives. ‘

Steinem told the story of her own abortion, performed in London, which she said allowed her to lead the life she had chosen.

“Here you are talking to two women: one who chose to give birth happily, and one who chose not to give birth happily,” Markle said.

“And we both thrive because we could make our own choices.”

Meghan has received some Republican feedback on her remarks, with some saying they did not want British royals to have a say in American politics.

Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) said: ‘This is just another attempt by the former royals to place their British drama in American politics.

‘I do not think anyone on this side of the dam cares about Meghan Markle’s opinion on killing babies. However, I think her candidacy for president would be a great episode for The Crown. ‘

Meanwhile, the Rep. Buddy Carter added: “I think Americans made it pretty clear in 1776 that they did not want members of the British royal family to make decisions for them.”
