Meghan MarkleAmerican celebrity Perez Hilton has called the podcast series “hilarious”. The Duchess of Sussex's Archetypes series lasted one season and saw Meghan interview high-profile guests including tennis great Serena Williams, singer Mariah Carey and Crazy Rich Asians actor Constance Wu.
The podcast deal between Spotify and the Sussexes ended after the initial run with Meghan and Lemonada Media announced in February that they were collaborating for a new season.
Hilton told royal expert Kinsey Schofield in her YouTube series: Kinsey Schofield unfilteredthat because of their connection to the royal family, both Meghan and Prince Harry money will be thrown at them Hollywoodeven if they are dropped by Spotify.
He said: “They don't even have to try. They will work Hollywood because Hollywood, like the rest of the world, is full of sheep. They will want to join the British royal family.
“Harry is no longer a senior working royal, but he is still the king's son and brother or future king. Money will always be thrown his way and his wife's way. Even if they are dropped by Spotify , or dropped by Netflix after their new projects don't attract many viewers.”
When asked about his thoughts on Meghan's skills as a podcast host, Hilton said: “I thought Archetypes was hilarious because she claims to be this champion of women and yet to people it seemed like every guest, if not every guest then the overwhelming majority, were celebrities.
“Why do you do this thing about women and we only hear voices from the rich and famous?”
Archetypes released its first episodes on Spotify in August 2022, with production company Sussexes signing a multi-year deal with the streaming giant.
Guests also included Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell, actor Jameela Jamil and Canada's First Lady, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.
Meghan, Harry and Spotify agreed to part ways in June the following year after twelve episodes, despite the show reaching number one on the company's podcast charts in 47 countries.
The Duchess' podcast even picked up a gong at the 48th Gracie Awards, which honor “outstanding” programs and women in news and entertainment.
In February, De Hollywood Reporter said Meghan would be bringing back Archetypes, with the Duchess telling the same publication she was proud to announce she would be joining the “brilliant” team at Lemonada to continue her love of podcasting.
She also said it felt great to be able to support a company founded by women in 2024 that already had a number of “thought-provoking” podcasts.
Meghan added: “Our plan to re-release Archetypes so more people can access it now, and to launch a dynamic new podcast, is in the works. I'm so excited to share it soon, and I'm thrilled to be joining the Lemonada family.”
In April it turned out that the the release date of the new podcast was pushed back to next year so Meghan could focus on her Netflix series about cooking, gardening and friendship.
An unnamed source told the Daily Mail: “The relaunch of Meghan's Archetypes podcast has been postponed until 2025.”
