Meghan Markle had a beautiful encounter with a young student during a second school visit in Colombian capital in Bogata, together with her husband, Prince Harry, at Colegio La Giralda, a local school in the city of Santa Fe.
The royal duo visits Colombia for a four-day visit at the invitation of the country's Vice President, Francia Marquez, who also gave a tour of the school.
After being greeted by school principal Serafin OrdóñezThe Duke and Duchess, along with the Vice President, took part in an art session, visited a nursery class and also got involved in planting trees on the school grounds.
Meghan helped Manuela, a five-year-old, plant a walnut tree, while Harry helped with a guayacan tree, a plant native to South America.
The Duchess of Sussex had a surprise when she greeted a young girl who was the same age as her eldest child. She exclaimed in Spanish: “You are the same age as my son Archie!”
Prince Harry He also practiced his Spanish by asking the students their names and ages. The young students then sang a song for the Duke and Duchess, after which they presented them with gifts and handwritten letters.
The school also prioritizes a classroom with an “outdoor concept,” which was established in 2020 to not only teach students about their environment, but also provide insight into the work of farmers in Colombia.
The Duke and Duchess also visited the school's 'social and emotional gym', where mental and physical exercises were carried out to help pupils learn more about their mental health and personal wellbeing.
The school was nominated for a place in the top ten best schools in the world, not for its educational performance, but for its promotion of a healthy lifestyle for students and teachers.
Students also presented gifts to Harry and Meghan's children Archiefive, and Lilibetthree, including Colombian-style ponchos, as well as personal letters and drawings.
School principal Diana Basto told the Mirror: “It was so special for us to have Harry and Meghan visit and the staff and children were all so excited. It was an amazing experience to have them here.
“They visited different parts of the school, including the memorial museum, where they learned about people who died in previous conflicts in Colombia's history. It was emotional for them and from there they went to the kindergarten and finally to the garden, where they helped plant two trees.”
During their four-day visit, the Sussexes will visit the city of Bogotá before heading to Cartagena and Cali as part of a 'cultural and social' visit.
The Sussexes' team has not confirmed how the trip is being funded: privately, through Harry and Meghan's Archewell Foundation, by the Colombian government or otherwise.
