Merseyside Fire & Rescue has released an update on an incident in Rainford, about 13 miles from Liverpool.

Crews from the UK’s 12th largest fire brigade arrived in the early morning hours after receiving a number of phone calls.

Five fire engines have now arrived on the scene, the first of which was stationed at 12:53 pm.

Firefighters arrived to find that a large barn, estimated to be about 10 x 20 meters, had caught fire.

According to Merseyside Fire & Rescue: “[They] acted quickly to secure the water supply and immediately cool the borders.”

The fire brigade fought the fire with main branch hoses.

The brigade has also warned people to avoid the area and urged residents to keep doors and windows closed.

They even suggested that residents keep medicines for existing conditions nearby and said anyone with ill effects should call NHS 111 for advice.

The incident is still ongoing and is likely to continue through the night.
