One of the most anticipated titles for Meta's VR platform has been “put on indefinite hold.”
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg originally announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas would be coming to Quest headsets at the 2021 Connect conference. However, Meta has repeatedly declined to comment in the years since, referring media to its development partners for updates.
That changed today in the run-up to Connect 2024 in late September, when Meta officially responded to the project's status in a YouTube video, confirming first by IGN and independently verified by UploadVR.
“GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects,” Meta said. “We look forward to working with our friends at Rockstar in the future.”
Meta has since delivered other major titles to its VR platform, however, including Asgard’s Wrath 2 from one of its acquired studios and Assassin’s Creed Nexus from Ubisoft. It also plans to release Batman: Arkham Shadow, from another acquired studio, later this year, along with major third-party titles like Alien: Rogue Inclusion and Metro Awakening.
