Metallica on Stranger Things: Master of Puppets tops Billboard charts after Netflix finale

weird stuff seems to be working its magic again, with Metallica“Master of Puppets” currently sits at number 40 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart after making its way into the series finale. The song also recently reached number one on the iTunes charts.

Master of Puppets was first released in 1986 and over the years has been widely regarded as one of the world’s best guitar songs – but the days worth charting were long gone.

However, after the song was used in the finale of Netflixit’s hit Weird stuff, the show’s legions of fans are giving the song a chart resurgence.

The song is used in a nail-biting scene where (spoilers ahead, if you still haven’t gotten around to watching it…) Eddie Munson, Joseph Quinn’s character, Master of Puppets plays his guitar to try. sidetracking the Demobats (flying predatory creatures in the parallel world called the Upside Down).

Metallica supported the use of their song on the Netflix show, writing a message of appreciation on their Instagram.

The band said: “The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into Weird stuff has always been next level, so we were beyond psychic for them to not just include “Master of Puppets” in the show, but build such a pivotal scene around it.

“We were all excited to see the end result and when we did we were completely blown away…it’s done so extremely well, so much so, that some people could guess the song by holding a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands.” the trailer!!How crazy cool is that?

Kate BushThe song Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) also found new audiences after being used on the show. The song was released 37 years earlier and was part of Shrub‘s 1985 album Hounds of Love. At the time, the song went to number three in the UK charts.

But when the song was played in the last season of Weird stuff it was catapulted to the top of the charts in countries around the world. It currently sits at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

It even broke three Guinness World Records: the oldest female artist to reach number one on the UK’s official singles chart, the longest gap between number one on the UK’s official singles chart, and the longest time it takes a song had to reach number one on the UK’s official singles chart.
