The secretary for Levelling-Up was conspicuously absent from a crucial parliamentary session of Prime Ministers To ask. A core member of Boris Johnson’s cabinet, Michael Gove, was missing from the Tory front seat of key figures of support. The void of Conservative cabinet support has fueled further speculation that more high-profile Tory resignations may be on the horizon for Johnson’s government. Policy editor for BBC Newsnight Lewis Goodall said: “Michael Gove is not in the front seat. I now hear a lot of whispers about his future.”
During the opening moments of the Prime Minister’s questions, Mr Goodall said: “Tory banks are almost completely silent.”
The parliamentary session was held amid a string of scathing resignations from the Conservative Party, including members of Mr Johnson’s cabinet, Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid.
Twitter commentators were quick to question the absence of Secretary of State Liz Truss, who was also missing from the conservative front bench.
Mr Goodall clarified that Ms Truss was acting abroad on government affairs but there was no clear explanation for Mr Gove’s failure to attend the crucial parliamentary meeting.
