It’s a reunion over three decades in the making, so iconic Neighbors couple Mike Young and Jane Harriswhose romance kept viewers hooked in the 1980s, reconnect just before the show’s end, and we’re not crying, we promise.
Guy Pearcewho played Mike for three years between 1986 and 1989, will reprise his role in the Channel 5 final episodes of the soap, which will air next week.
Mike rocks in Erinsborough in scenes that make history, and his comeback is sure to cost some Ramsay Streetbest by surprise.
However, Jane is most affected, completely and utterly taken by surprise by her ex-lover’s shock.
In photos from Mike and Jane’s reunion, the two see a moment together outside Lassiter’s hotel, reminiscing and catching up on what happened in their lives.
Mike’s return, while well-received by many, will eventually throw a spanner in the works for Clive Gibbons (Geoff Paine), who had hoped to rekindle things with Jane after their breakup.
Jane, as viewers know, dated Clive for a number of years, but she eventually ended their relationship when she discovered that he had betrayed her by harboring a huge secret about the nature of his relationship with Danielle Pendlebury (Christine Stephen-Daly).
Clive is determined to regain Jane’s trust, and he’s making a huge gesture next week to do just that.
However, his efforts are ultimately thwarted by Mike’s comeback.
Jane then takes Mike on a tour of Ramsay Street as they reflect on their history before the houses go up for sale on the final episode of the Aussie series.
Old feelings will arise in the former lovers, but will passion arise again?
That remains to be seen, but Clive, struggling with his jealousy, lashes out, and a big showdown ensues!
Clive, enraged, gets into a fight with Mike, and the duo continues to fight… over a lamp!
Neighbors, as viewers know, will be terminated later this month, after Channel 5 controversially decided to scrap it from their programs in favor of ‘original British drama’, which the broadcaster claims has a ‘strong appeal’ to audiences.
A number of familiar faces from a bygone era have been and will be popping up in the last few weeks.
In June, it was confirmed that Guy Pearce would be one of those former favourites, as he returned for the first time since leaving in 1989.
“It’s very exciting and surreal to be back on set at the same time, but it feels like coming home,” said the actor, who has starred in Iron Man 3 and Mare of Easttown, among others.
‘This is where it all started professionally for me.
“I’ve been asked occasionally over the years to come back and wonder if it was the right thing to do, but once I knew the show was over I knew I had to do it .
“While I’ve caught up with a lot of the cast I’ve worked with on the show over the years, there’s nothing like being here all together again.”
Neighbors will broadcast these scenes on Monday, July 25 at 1:45 PM and 6 PM on channel 5. The very last episode will air on Friday, July 29 at 9:00 PM.
