Mikel Arteta compares Gabriel Jesus to Harry Kane as new Arsenal signing ‘creates chaos’

Jesus scored three goals in two games after opening the score as Everton was defeated in the United States. He then became a provider for Bukayo Saka to seal a 2-0 win.

It was the perfect start to life at Arsenal for Jesus, who began to see every penny of his £45m price tag as the side work their way to the start of the Premier League season in less than three weeks.

“[Gabriel] he creates chaos, he creates uncertainty and he is always on your shoulder,” Arteta told Arsenal’s website. “He is always there to steal the ball from you, he is always in front of the goal. He is a real threat and this is what we need.

“And then he’s the one. The moment we give the ball away, he’s immediately active and puts pressure and gets his team behind him. He has a lot of leadership qualities, I can immediately see what he’s doing with the guys and he’s the type man we want.”

Arteta says Jesus was bought to play as a striker in the midst of an attacking three, but after seeing his new man score and assist in the same Arsenal game for the first time, he says he expects more than just goals.

“He is very versatile, but the way we want to develop him is of course in that position (striker),” explains Arteta. “But sometimes not alone, but don’t close that door because Gabby [Martinelli] with regard to what the opponent does in certain games, we will have to use him in different positions. He is open to that and knows that it is also part of his strength.”

Asked if Arsenal need a traditional No.9, Arteta added: “It depends. Look at Harry Kane, look at [Erling] Halland. I think there are certain strikers available at the moment, they are growing, they have their moments in European football.

“It depends on the qualities, someone with completely different qualities scores 45 goals every season. So it’s what is available and what the team needs.”
