The move comes after Cabinet Minister Therese Coffey sparked controversy when she suggested that Britons should eat turnips instead.

Mr Spencer told The Sun on Sunday: “I know families expect the fresh produce they need to be on the shelves when they go for their weekly shopping.

“That is why I call on supermarket chefs to get the shelves stocked again and to outline how we can prevent a recurrence.”

All major supermarkets are expected to attend the meeting.

Mr Spencer will demand answers about how Britain found itself at the center of the crisis.

Bad weather inside Morocco And Spain has caused one huge shortage of fresh fruit and vegetables in UK shops.

Tomatoes, leeks, cucumbers, lettuce and raspberries have all been hit hard.

Some desperate supermarkets have resorted to rationing the amount of fruits and vegetables bettors can buy to avoid running out of supplies.

And in the final twist, some shops are out of turnips following Mrs Coffey’s plea for the British to switch to the seasonal root vegetables.

The crisis is once again calling on Britain to invest in new multi-storey greenhouses to grow more of our favorite foods here.
