Mayor Eric Adams was at the scene and appeared in a press conference with NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell.

“Shot at one point shows how this national problem affects families,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if you are on the Upper East Side or in the Bronx.”

The mother was taken to Metropolitan Hospital but could not be rescued and was pronounced dead.

Her baby was unharmed, but was also taken to hospital out of caution.

Sources told the New York Post the gunman was dressed completely in black and ran up East 95th Street after the shooting.

A shell casing was found at the scene and the area is being investigated by the NYPD for video.

Adams said police would continue to search for the shooter while complaining that the city needed more help, “we have been addressing the issue of over – distribution of guns on the streets all day.

“We do need help from Washington, from the state, from our criminal justice system,” he said.

“We are going to find this person who is guilty of this terrible crime. We will get him and bring him to justice. “
