Moment lioness leaves parental home with Rottweiler in her jaws | World | News

Cameras captured the incredible moment a lioness leaped from a family garden with a Rottweiler between her teeth.

A shocked family has released CCTV footage showing a lone lioness entering their compound in Kenya late at night and leaving with their dog.

In the video, released this weekend, the lion can be seen lurking in the shadows of a well-lit street on the outskirts of Nairobi.

The big cat can easily be seen walking along the walls of the property, dropping into the garden and leaving with the 75kg dog in its mouth.

The relatives have shared their shock over the incident and shown the aftermath of the disturbing event.

Speak with BBC News Africa, Sylvia Wamai, a resident of the compound who was at home with her family when the dog – named Jaci – was taken, showed reporters the walls of her property.

They were covered in lion prints, showing the route the cat took when it entered her home.

Joshua Isigi, a worker, said he tried to scare off the lion after he noticed it coming inside.

He told reporters that he picked up a machete and “scraped it against some iron plates” in an attempt to scare him away.

But the animal was undeterred and managed to flee the property with the dog in its jaws.

When it came to light, Ms Wamai said, it was less than 10 minutes later, adding: “That's how we lost our dog.”

Jaci and her twin brother Rottweiler Laser had been with the family for two years before she was taken.

Ms Wamai said her family is shocked and devastated and it has made giving love to their other dog more difficult.

Sylvia, whose family are shocked and devastated, said: “It's hard to give love to one dog and then remember the other has been taken.

And it was not a normal death. It was something that just shocked us out of nowhere. It's just sad.”
