The monkeypox outbreak has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO).
dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general, said the organization’s committee had failed to reach a consensus, yet decided to call it an emergency.
“We have an outbreak that has spread rapidly around the world due to new modes of transmission that we understand too little and meet the criteria of international health regulation,” said Dr. Ghebreyesus.
