Mother’s Heartbreaking Final Sacrifice for Death on Fire as Family Waited Outside for She to Emerge from Burning House

A mother tragically died in a house fire after saving her 12-year-old son’s life in the fire.

Firefighters battled the fire for several hours, but family members were devastated after Brittany Jones, 35, was later discovered in the house.

Brittany shared the home in Camden, New York, with her husband Aaron and their 12-year-old son Anthony, according to the Daily Sentinel.

Although the couple’s son managed to escape the inferno, unfortunately his mother couldn’t get out.

Relatives told CNY Central that they gathered in front of the house on Monday when it went up in flames, hoping to see Brittany appear.

“You cling to that hope that she’s okay because nobody wanted to think she wasn’t okay,” said Brittany’s sister-in-law Kayla Svereika.

However, a first responder broke the news that Brittany was unable to escape the fire – but instead spent her last moments making sure her son could get out of the house.

“She was a force to be reckoned with in everything she did,” Svereiki added.

“She didn’t do something halfway — she did it all the way.”

A GoFundMe page set up by relatives paid tribute to the mother, saying she “will never be replaced”.

Aaron’s sibling wrote, “My brother lost his wife. My cousin lost his mother. She saved her son’s life and got him out of the house.

“Money is the last thing on their minds right now. But they have lost everything. All they have are the clothes on their backs.’

In a statement, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and the Camden Police Department responded to the fire around 9:45 p.m. Monday night.

They said: “Deputies and village police arrived about three minutes after they heard the call and the house was completely overrun.

“When they arrived, they learned that one of the residents may still be in the house.

“Firefighters later discovered a victim who was believed to have been a resident of the house.”

Authorities said sheriff’s investigators, members of the Sheriff’s ID Unit and New York State Fire Investigators are currently working to identify the cause of the fire, which “does not appear suspicious.”
