Police investigate suspected murder in Taranaki
Police say a murder investigation is underway after a man’s body was found off the coast of Taranaki.
At around 8:40 a.m. Sunday, emergency services were called to an address on rural Kina Road, Oaonui, after a person arrived at the rural property and found the man.
It is believed that the discovery took place on a farm.
“While we are treating this death as suspicious, we are in the very early stages of understanding what happened to our victim,” Detective Inspector Brent Matuku said in a statement released to the media after 5 p.m.
The man’s identity has yet to be confirmed.

It is the third investigation in Taranaki since May 7, when Adrian Humphreys was found dead at a remote camp site in Tāngārakau, in the east of the region. No one has yet been charged in connection with his death.
On May 22, Emma Field, a 21-year-old woman from New Plymouth, was found dead after a house fire and a man has since been charged with murder and arson.
