Ifeanyi Okowa, vice presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and governor of Delta State, has acknowledged that his West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) is “missing”.
During a media briefing after inspecting some projects at the state university in Ozoro, Isoko North LGA, Okowa said his WAEC result was the second best in the country when he graduated in 1976.
According to him, he had “distinction in all subjects”. Okowa said;
“As for the issuance of my certificate, I think it is a misconception. People try to play politics with everything.
“Yes, I lost my WAEC certificate, but I have the printout from Edo College, Benin City, which clearly states that I have distinction in all subjects.
“The diploma of the high school was attached and it is recognized by the Edo College and the school there announced that I made an A, B, B.
“I’m not proud of myself, but it was very difficult to get a grade like that in high school at the time.
“My high school result was second best nationally in 1976 when I finished. So many universities let me in via telegram at the time, and I had to make choices to accept.”
Okowa also revealed that he was not yet 22 years old when he graduated from university.
He added;
“Of course it is very clear that I completed my medical education at the University of Ibadan. I was 21 years and a few months; I was not yet 22 years old.”
