The culture minister had to cut off a live interview on Thursday morning when a member of the public threatened to have a Sky cameraman arrested.
Nadine Dorries was interrogated by Sky’s Kay Burley about the commonwealth games in Birmingham when she was distracted by the altercation.
A man could be heard yelling in the background before Mrs. Dorries said, “I’m sorry Kay…I’m afraid we have to go now.”
She added: “The cameraman is in a bit of trouble”.
A man was heard shouting, “Touch me then? You can’t, because they have you arrested for assault.’
Mrs. Dorries said, “He doesn’t touch you.”
The man replied, “He can’t touch me, ma’am, what do you mean he can’t touch me? He can’t, I’ll have him arrested in five seconds.’
Ms Dorries then told viewers that “the cameraman didn’t touch him” before turning to yell “security” before the camera feed was interrupted.
She reappeared on screen 20 minutes later in the BBC studio.
Mrs Dorries was in Birmingham for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
She defended the £778 million cost to host the event at a time when families are faced with rising bills and mounting problems.
She told Sky News: “It’s not a vanity project. This is hugely important.
“You mean we shouldn’t have the Commonwealth Games? I think we’re proud and honored to have picked up the baton when it was dropped elsewhere in the world and to continue to lead these Commonwealth Games in the great way we have done .
“Everyone here – thousands of people – is extremely proud, including the volunteers who are now behind me, extremely proud of what we do.”
