We all knew neon white would make it Steam top 20 when Valve caught up with that particular release. After the games industry’s response to the speedrun simulator? It was a pretty safe bet.

GamesBeat alumnus Jeff Grubb is there grinding speed times, and when Jeff is all about a game, you know it’s going to be popular. Hero of the People Mike Minotti is offer fierce competition although. Somebody’s got to save us from that super villain (Editor’s Note: I’m actually number 129 in the world right now, and it’s important that people know this.).

I mean, it could be me. I could be the hero we need. Just take a look at these raw, legit screenshots of the leaderboards of the first two levels. Look at my almost unassailable speed in two of the mechanically simplest levels in Neon White.

Witness me. Witness me and don’t ask follow-up questions, especially about my times on any of the rest of the game’s levels.

Anyway.

The June top 20 isn’t specifically about Neon White. It’s more retro than that. There are some real bangers this month, but honestly all I can think of is Neon White. But not about the story. I couldn’t tell you what that story is actually about.

But deep in my heart I think about how to execute a level perfectly. How to tap a few tenths of a second more of my best time. How I shoot at a target that needs a bullet without my arm shaking so much that I miss and have to start over.
