A fire that destroyed a car in suburban New Plymouth Wednesday night is being treated as suspicious.

Firefighters were called to Cook St in Marfell just before 6 p.m.

The fire was “well involved,” said a fire service spokesman.

The fire was treated as suspicious, he confirmed.

The police were also on the scene.

A police spokesman said he was alerted at about 5:56 pm.

The vehicle has been towed, the spokesman said.
