New Zealand urged to speak out over citizen jailed in Iran


The government has been urged to break its silence over the plight of a New Zealand citizen reportedly sentenced to more than nine years in prison in Iran.

Several international media outlets, including the BBC's Persian-language branch, have reported on the arrest and detention of Sereen Curtis, also known as Sereen Badiei, on charges of “inciting corruption and obscenity”, “insulting religious sanctities” and “propaganda against the government”.
