Newlywed Couple Get Backlash Online After Sharing ‘Controversial’ Marriage Rules | USA | News

A newlywed couple said they received backlash online after sharing their “controversial” marriage rules, which included sharing their location with each other 24/7. Love-struck couple Jaden and Andy McGrew have gone viral since they gave viewers on TikTok an insight into their marriage guidelines.

But the McGrews’ claim that they “didn’t realize” their list of do’s and don’ts to get married, which included not being alone with someone of the opposite sex, was “controversial” until people commented.

The pair, from Texas, USA, shared their lines in a TikTok video on their joint @jadenandandy account. Another guideline they revealed is that they always share their passwords with each other so that they “have no secrets”.

said Jaden Fox News digital: “We got comments on multiple videos we posted about some of the things we mentioned that we do.

“These are things that we’ve agreed on in our relationship over time and from experience. We never really sat down and came up with ‘rules’, but that seems to be how people have interpreted it.

“These are just things that work for us in our current stage of life, and we were shocked to see how controversial they were!”

Commentators on the pair’s video were divided on the rules, as many of them actually said they didn’t disagree with the rules at all — and others said they feel the “opposite of confidence.”

One person said, “Instead of rules, I think this is common sense.”

While another added: “Why are these considered controversial? My husband and I are exactly the same and it’s because we have total trust and respect for each other.”

But someone else disagreed and said, “This to me is the opposite of confidence.”

As a fourth posted, “It’s always the people who don’t trust their partner who talk about how great their marriage is.”

Despite the backlash, Jaden and Andy have maintained that their rules are “just practical” and have nothing to do with their Christian faith.

Jaden said: “While we believe marriage is the greatest commitment anyone can make and we want to protect our marriage, none of the things mentioned in the video are based solely on our beliefs.

“For example, sharing the location is just practical and allows us to check in with each other without having to wait for a response.”
