Anger as under fire Nicola Sturgeon accuses gender reform critics of ‘homophobia and racism’ in ‘desperate attack’ to bolster her popularity after trans rapist debacle
- Nicola Sturgeon labeled critics of her bill as ‘misogynistic, homophobic and racist’
- She was accused of using “baseless” attacks rather than engaging with opponents
Nicholas Steur has been convicted of a ‘disgusting and desperate’ attack on her sex reform critics after she called them homophobic and racist.
The Prime Minister claimed that some politicians have used the issue of women’s rights as a ‘cover’ to cover up their transphobia and claimed that they are also misogynistic, often homophobic and sometimes racist.
Opponents accused her of using ‘baseless’ attacks rather than going along with those who oppose her Gender Recognition Reform Act (Scotland).
The legislation removes the need for a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria when applying for a gender recognition certificate, lowers the minimum age for applications to 16, and shortens the time it takes someone to first live in an acquired gender to three months for those over 18.

Miss Sturgeon said in The News Agents podcast on the Global Player site: ‘I’ve heard people, politicians, claim to be defenders of women’s rights that I’ve never heard defended in the past.
“I’ve even heard of support measures… that go against women’s rights. There will be legislation later in this House on criminal justice reform to try to address issues such as low conviction rates for rape and assault.
“We will probably have to deal with legislation on abortion buffer zones in the coming months.
And I think it will be interesting to see how many of the so-called defenders of women’s rights in the context of the trans debate that all women’s rights are really important.
And there are some people who I think have decided to use women’s rights as a sort of cover of acceptability to cover up what transphobia is. Now, again, that’s not everyone who is against this bill, I want to be very clear on that.
“But there are those who have opposed this bill, who are cloaking themselves in women’s rights to make it acceptable. But just as they are transphobic, you will also find that they are deeply misogynist, often homophobic, and some may be racist as well.”
Bryson, formerly known as Adam Graham (pictured), was convicted this week of raping two women in 2016 and 2019 after a trial at Glasgow High Court

Tory spokesman Rachael Hamilton said: “These are disgusting and desperate claims by Nicola Sturgeon.”
She added: “Instead of engaging in the criticism and admitting she was wrong, she preferred to launch baseless attacks against those who disagreed.”
Writer JK Rowling branded Miss Sturgeon Orwellian.
She said on social media: “Never forget, Sturgeon, her government and supporters have maintained that it is ridiculous to think that anyone would dress in women’s clothing to gain access to vulnerable women and girls. Wouldn’t happen. Everyone is who they say they are. To question this is hate.’
She quoted George Orwell’s 1984: ‘The party said to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their last, most essential order.’
The British government makes a Section 35 order to prevent the Gender Reform Bill from getting Royal Assent over concerns about its impact on the Reserved Equality Act.
In the interview with host Lewis Goodall, Miss Sturgeon also claimed Labor under Sir Keir Starmer would be a ‘pale imitation’ of a Conservative government.
She said he will “bite off” the SNP leader to make a deal in the event of a hung parliament.
On LBC, Sir Keir advised her to ‘roll up her sleeves and focus on health care in Scotland’ and an education system ‘on its knees’.
He added: “I think Nicola Sturgeon might want to spend some time sorting out some of the issues she has under her control in Scotland.”
