Nigel Farage has his support for Donald Trump – and went digging Joe Biden – in a week when the former US president could be convicted of a crime.
The 77-year-old denies 34 counts of falsifying company records related to a £100,000 ($130,000) payment to porn actor Stormy Daniels in the final days of the 2016 election.
The plaintiff alleges that the money was paid by Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer, to prevent Ms. Daniels from going public with her story about a 2006 sexual encounter — something Trump has consistently denied.
As the Republican candidate, Trump will face the incumbent Mr. Biden in November.
Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley asked Mr Farage if he still supported the billionaire regardless of the outcome – and his answer was unequivocal.
He stated: “Absolutely 100 percent.
“The world was a much safer place Donald Trump as president.
“Biden's weak leadership has opened the door to Putin, to the Chinese, to the Iranians, to Hamas and even to all our aggressors.”
Mr Farage, who has joined Mr Trump at several of his rallies in the US, added: “We need Trump back in the White House, we need a stronger relationship with him, we need NATO and the rest of the members need to pay their debts. way.
“We will be a much safer place and you know, it matters because we are in a worse place than we have been since the Cuban Missile Crisis over 60 years ago.”
Closing arguments are expected to last all day today, with jury deliberations starting as early as Wednesday.
The case is the first of four charges against Trump to go to trial in his bid to win back the White House.
Prosecutors say the payments to Cohen, Trump's then-lawyer, were falsely recorded as “legal fees” to conceal the true nature of the transactions.
In theory, the charges are punishable by up to four years in prison, although such an outcome is considered unlikely.
