Insecurity: Nigeria has a lazy and indifferent commander in chief? Former NHRC President, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu

Former chairman of the Nigerian National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a “lazy and indifferent commander in chief”.

In an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, July 27, Odinkalu condemned the level of insecurity in the country, especially the renewed attacks by terrorists in recent times.

The former NHRC boss also reprimanded President Buhari for flying out of the country hours after Guard Brigade agents in Abuja were ambushed and shot by terrorists. an unsafe country.

He said;

“The tragedy of our current crisis is that President Buhari is neither present nor able to lead.

“Worse, he doesn’t care, in my respectful opinion.

“You can’t, with all due respect, have Presidential Guard brigade personnel murdered in Abuja and the president (traveling) to Liberia to give a lecture on security, are you serious?”

Odinkalu, stating that he believes the country will be more secure with adequate coordination, advised the president to delegate some of the roles, including party leader and diplomat.

He also said that the role of a commander in chief should never be delegated, regardless of the situation.

Odinkalu said;

“There is only one element in the work of the president that can never be delegated as long as the president is terrestrial, and that is a commander in chief.

“When the president is in hospital and on a ventilator, he cannot delegate the job of the commander in chief, and if the commander in chief is as lazy and indifferent as Nigeria’s, then the country is exactly where it should be.”
