Adijat Olarinoye won a gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in women’s weightlifting on Sunday morning, July 31.
Olarinoye competed in the 55kg category and lifted a total of 203kg, a competition record to win the women’s 55kg weightlifting event.
She lifted 92kg in * and 111kg in clean and jerk, bringing a total of 203kg to set a new Games record in the category.
Bindyarani Sorokhaibam from India came in second, while Fraer Morrow from England finished third.
Olarinoye beat the competition of 10 other contestants to emerge victorious.
Olarinoye’s performance now brings Team Nigeria to joint ninth position in the medal standings.
In boxing, Abdul-Afeez Osoba advanced to the round of 16 after knocking out Bahamas Carl Hield in the men’s light middleweight first round.
