MIDDLESBROUGH tops a shame ranking of the places with the most drunk driving convictions.
The TS3 postcode of the city in the north east has three times the UK average.
Figures show that 16.1 drivers per thousand have a drink rap on their record.
The second highest is 15.9 in the DN1 part of Doncaster.
Wolverhampton’s WV1 zip code is in third place with 15.3.
Figures revealed by the DVLA under freedom of information laws show that four of the ten worst places in the UK are in the North, three in the Midlands and three in Wales.
These areas have more than ten times as many as the places with the lowest rates.
The DVLA figures are divided into almost 3,000 postcode areas.
And they show that 275,000 of the country’s 41.2 million drivers have a drink-driving endorsement, with a national average of 6.6 per 1,000.
London and many parts of the south are at the bottom of the list – only one in 1,000 has a drink-driving conviction.
Other places in the north in the worst ten areas are Grimsby and Blackpool.
Those in the Midlands include a second area of Wolverhampton and the Castle Vale area of Birmingham.
The worst in Wales are Bargoed and New Tredegar, in Caerphilly, as well as Treorchy, Rhondda.
