The video explains the three main rules that city residents must follow in the event of such an attack. Concerns have been raised over a claim by propagandists that Russian nuclear weapons could destroy the east coast of the United States.
The New York City video informs people to stay indoors, close windows and doors, and if they are outside during the attack, quickly take off their clothes and pack and clean.
The woman in the video says, “So there has been a nuclear attack, don’t ask me how or why, just know the big one has struck?”
She then explains the three important steps: “Get in quickly… staying in the car is not an option. You have to enter a building and move away from the windows.
“Step two: stay inside. Close all doors and windows. Do you have a basement? Go there. If you don’t have one, go as far to the center of the building as you can.
“If you were outside after the blast, clean up immediately. Remove all outerwear and put them in a bag to keep radioactive dust or ash away from your body.
“Step three: stay informed. Follow media for more information. Don’t forget to sign up for Notify NYC for official alerts and updates. Do not go out until authorities say it is safe.”
The release of the video has sparked concern among people in New York and on social media.
Twitter user @IamTomOB tweeted: “That’s pretty serious. If there was no reason to publish it, they wouldn’t.”

Although the video comes days after Russia announced tests on its Satan-2 hypersonic nuclear missile ahead of “series production,” the timing of the video in New York is not due to any heightened threat or concern.
New York’s Emergency Management Department said on Tuesday that the video is only intended to educate people in the city about what to do and that the likelihood of such an attack is “very low.”
New York City Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol said, “As the threat landscape continues to evolve, it is important for New Yorkers to know that we are preparing for any impending threats and providing them with the resources they need to stay safe and informed.”
Glenn Beck, a political commentator and radio host in the United States, posted a clip of his reaction to the public safety announcement.
