One person has died and another was seriously injured in a two-car accident near Hastings.
Emergency services were called to the accident on Pakowhai Rd at 6:10 p.m., police said in a statement.
Police confirm that one person has died and another has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The Serious Crash Unit is present.
The road was still closed at 8:30 p.m. and is expected to remain so for some time to come.
Detours are in place at Pakowhai Rd at Brookfields Rd and Farndon Rd, and are likely to remain in place for several hours.
Motorists are requested to postpone the trip if possible.
