Paddy Power: Simona Halep and Ons Jabeur both win in straight sets – now 9/4

Halep will face Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in her semifinal, who will compete in her first Grand Slam semifinal.

The Romanian has still not lost a set in this tournament, after her dominant 6-2 6-4 victory over Amanda Anisimova yesterday.

The 30-year-old, the world No. 18, has already knocked out world No. 4 Paula Badosa in the fourth round and is being tipped to be the favorite to win her third Grand Slam, despite Jabeur, the No. the world, are still in the draw.

Rybakina defeated Australian Alja Tomljanovic 4-6 6-2 6-3 in her quarter-final, and despite this being the semi-final, today’s game will be her first time playing a seeded opponent in this championship.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two stars, with Halep taking a 2-1 lead, most recently in the third round of last year’s US Open when the Romanian won 7-6 4-6 6-3.

First on Center Court today and in the other semi-final, Ons Jabeur from Tunisia will face Tatjana Maria from Germany in what will be the first experience of a Grand Slam semi-final for both players.

Jabeur has won 10 of her 11 sets so far in this tournament, sealing her place in the last four with a 3-6 6-1 6-1 victory over Marie Bouzkova.

Her opponent today becomes the oldest first major semifinalist ever at the age of 34.

Of the 34 Grand Slams she has competed in prior to Wimbledon 2022, she only made it past the second round once, at Wimbledon 2015, where she lost in round three.

There are 101 rankings between the two, with Jabeur taking a 2-1 head-to-head lead in the tie, although they haven’t met since Beijing four years ago.
