two people have been killed and at least four injured following a shooting Paris, Police have said.
A 69-year-old has since been arrested after the attack.
Officials said two of the four were in critical condition.
According to reports, the shooting took place at a Kurdish cultural center near Gare de l’Est station Friday in town.
“It’s total panic, we’ve locked ourselves in,” a shopkeeper told AFP news agency.
Officials said the attacker worked for France’s national railway company and said: “He is a French national who worked for many years at the SNCF.
“He was arrested at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. He is now under investigation for murder and aggravated violence.”
Anti-terror officials are investigating the shooting, but have not indicated any sign of a terrorist motive.
“A gun attack has occurred. Thank you to the security forces for their prompt action,” Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire tweeted.
“Thoughts for the victims and those who witnessed this drama.”
Police have cordoned off the area in the French capital’s 10th arrondissement and warned people to stay away.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said he would visit the scene of the incident.
It follows a series of shootings and stabbings in the city dating back to 2015, all related to terrorism.
The country’s deadliest terrorist attack ever occurred in November 2015, when 130 people were killed in various locations.
Suicide bombers who pledged allegiance to ISIS targeted the Stade de France, cafes, restaurants and the Bataclan music venue, where 90 people were killed.
Earlier this year, two Paris-born gunmen associated with al-Qaeda broke into the offices of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, killing 17 people inside and three outside.
In July 2016, 86 people were called and more than 400 injured when a 19-tonne truck deliberately drove into a crowd on the boulevard of Nice, just 32km from Cannes.
