The creator of PEAKY Blinders has given a huge update on the feature film – with a ‘surprising’ twist.
The popular BBC drama ended in April after an incredible six runs.
Fans have now turned their attention to the feature film, which will be rewritten by its creator, Steven Knight.
Speaking to Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Zoe Hardman, Steven said the film is almost done.
He said, “I’m writing it now. I mean, I’m almost done writing it, and we’re going to record it… I’m setting up some film and television studios in Digbeth in Birmingham.”
He continued: “We’re going to be recording in the studios in Digbeth and on location in Digbeth in Birmingham.
“Digbeth and Small Heath is where the… Peaky Blinders actually walked around. So it’s basically like Peaky coming home.”
Jamie then asked who would be in the cast and if there would be any familiar faces.
Steven replied, “Of course, and some new faces that will hopefully be very surprising.”
Zoe then joked that she and Jamie would be available every day after the show ended at 10am if they could be in it, and Steven joked to her that he “written you already”.
The hosts then asked when fans could expect the film, and Steven said, “Well, I hope we’ll be filming in 18 months. And then, of course, we put it together.
“Um, I don’t know, I mean, it’s going to depend on the distributors and stuff when it comes out. But I’m really looking forward to having a Peaky event where people can watch it collectively.
“I mean, the social media community is so strong and people are talking to each other. But to really be together physically is going to be really interesting.”
Steven previously confirmed that the film would be a “very specific story” that “is based on a true story from World War II”.
Peaky Blinders is available on BBC iPlayer.
