A team of detectives has been working on the case in the months since – called Op Dorado.

The half-year anniversary falls on Saturday, March 25.

“This week, strong lines of inquiry led a specialized police search team to a location near Lake Rotoiti in search of specific items related to the murder,” said Detective Lindsay Pilbrow.

An area along State Highway 30 and a large area of forest behind interesting properties were searched.

Police later searched for and found this Toyota Hilux which they believed was connected to the murder. It was burnt out.

While one man has already been charged with Whyman’s murder, Pilbrow said police believe others were involved in the events leading up to her death.

“There are also people who have protected these individuals and their involvement afterwards.

“We know that these people are still around and we spoke to some of them during the investigation. They will see us again, at their door, or carry out further investigations and house searches in the area.”

Pilbrow appealed to anyone with more information to speak out.

“Although the police have received a lot of information from the public, we really want those who know what happened to contact us.

“Six months is a long time to hold on to secrets and guilt.

“You may have information about the shooting, the motor vehicle used, or you may have overheard suspicious conversations. That’s information we need to know. What you think is insignificant may be a crucial piece of the puzzle.

“Korrey was innocent and didn’t deserve to die. She was a loving mother of three young children and her life was taken needlessly.”
