people are advised to take precautions as a three-day heat warning has come into effect in Ireland.
The Status The yellow alert started at 6am on Sunday and will last until 9pm on Tuesday, with temperatures reaching 32 degrees on Monday.
The Meet Ireland The weather warning stated: “On Sunday and Monday, exceptionally warm weather will hit Ireland with daytime temperatures of 25 to 30 degrees and possibly up to 32 degrees on Monday.
“Night temperatures will range from 15 to 20 degrees.”
Met Eireann said there was an increased risk of heat stress, high solar UV index and water-related incidents.
It came when a man in his 60s died after getting into trouble while swimming in Portarlington, Co. Laois, on Saturday.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. at Derryounce Lake.
The man was pulled from the water and taken by ambulance to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise, but was pronounced dead a short time later.
It is the third swimming-related death in the past week.
minister of environment, Eamon Ryan urged people to be careful around water.
“It happens every time, it’s so predictable, but so tragic for any family,” Ryan told RTE.
“Let’s not make it a fourth family, destroyed, ruined, in this good weather,”
“Be careful, don’t go into waters you don’t know how safe they are. Stay close to shore, take care of each other, we don’t want another tragic loss.”
As the heat wave hit Ireland, Dublin City Council drew up emergency plans to protect homeless people from extreme temperatures and Irish Water reminded people to watch their water consumption.
