A person was taken by ambulance to the Medical and Injury Center in Nelson on Friday after an accident in Appleby, near Richmond.

A police spokesperson said emergency services responded to a single-vehicle accident along Lansdowne Rd just after 5:30 a.m.

“A car has ended up in a ditch,” said a spokesman.

St John Integrated Communications Consultant Sally Webster said St John was called at 5.34am and an ambulance was on hand. Treating staff then transported one patient in moderate condition to the medical center, which is adjacent to Nelson Hospital.
