Peter Crouch believes Antonio ConteaThe tactics at Tottenham are the same as what he experienced during his time at Stoke city.

The Spurs suffered their first Premier League loss this season on Saturday when they were beaten 3-1 by their north London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Tottenham had plenty of opportunities to counterattack in the first half, but Crouch feels Conte has set up his team to defend too deeply against Mikel Arteta’s side.

“I played like that at Stoke,” Crouch said during his analysis for BT Sport.

“Tottenham have enough players not to play this way, I think they could be a bit more comprehensive.

“But when you play this way, you have to go to the people, you have to go to the ball, it has to be more progressive, it has to be with more aggression.”

Tottenham suffered even more frustration on Tuesday evening as they worked to a goalless draw against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.

The result puts Spurs second in Pool D with three points after three games, while Sporting tops the table with one more point.

After his side’s draw in Germany, Conte admitted the Spurs could struggle with what he believes is a small roster.

“I think we did a great job for the club to play in the Champions League. We ended the season with only 12 or 13 players,” said Conte.

“I always say that maybe we were lucky that we could only participate in two competitions. I think if I say it now, we need to take steps and be patient. If you compare Champions League with Europa League or Conference League, it is completely different. You have to play with your strongest team and that makes it difficult to change more. I talked about the transfer market and we know we need more windows.

Today I made a substitution and I brought in [Bryan] Gil and he is a young player. We must try to involve all players. We have to get stronger as a team. If we have the ambition and intention to play for these two big leagues, Premier League and Champions League, and you’ve lost a lot of energy and players through injuries, then you need a very, very big squad.”
