The London Fire Brigade said about six acres of wasteland, bushes and school playing fields are on fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but advice on the safety of dry grass barbecues has been reinforced.

Station commander Keith Sanders, who is on site, said: “The fire is producing smoke in the area and the wind direction is blowing smoke towards local terraced houses.

“Please avoid the area and if you live in the area keep your windows and doors closed.”
