Boris Johnson’s allies feared being out of the country for more than a week was a bad idea, giving his critics time to plot his downfall.

But Sir Keir Starmer is undoubtedly the one who most fears the Prime Minister’s absence.

Dominic Raab has proved he is a safe pair of hands fending off questions from Labour, the SNP and backbenchers in replacing Johnson, leaving the Tories with little to worry about today.

By comparison, Sir Keir must be a bag of nerves: Every time Angela Rayner walks into PMQ’s, she shows how few hits he gets on the job.

The couple couldn’t be more different in their approach.

Sir Keir is meticulous in his interrogation of Mr Johnson, as he overwhelms the details as the trained barrister that he is.
