One of three allegations of rape of a Premier League footballer was dropped by Scotland Yard.
The player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has also had his bail settlement extended until October as a result of the development.
Telegraph Sport revealed three weeks ago how additional allegations had been brought by a second wife.
He was originally arrested in the early hours of July 4 for an alleged rape allegedly committed last month. However, the police have now taken no further action against any of the two charges of the second woman that came forward while he was already under arrest.
“On July 4, the rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to the police,” the Met Police said in a statement. “The alleged rape was reported to have taken place in June 2022. On July 4, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody. While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of rape. two rapes allegedly committed against another woman in her twenties in April and June 2021.
“No further action is being taken regarding the June 2021 offence, but the investigation into the remaining offenses is ongoing. The man was initially released on bail until a date in August, but his bail has since been extended to a date early October.”
The club is aware that the player is being questioned but he continues to play with the squad. The player will appear when the Premier League season starts in August, despite concerns from MPs and campaigners. The player will also play at the World Cup in Qatar in November.
