Police still investigating gang ties in wave of Auckland shootings

Police are still investigating whether gangs may have been involved in the spate of shootings that took place across the street Auckland on Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Two houses in Auckland were shelled on Friday evening, but the incidents are not believed to be related.

A police spokesperson said on Saturday that the front door of a building in Avondale’s Ruahine St was shot down around 12:50 p.m. on Saturday.

“This firearm is said to have been unloaded by a person who was on foot at the time.”

“Police are investigating possible gang ties in connection with the Ruahine Street incident [in Avondale]a police spokesman said on Sunday.

A house in Tate Place in Otara was shot at at least three times by a shotgun.

“However, there is no indication that this incident is related to a previous series of gang-related drive-by shootings.”

At 2 a.m. a house in Ōtara’s Tate St was fired upon, but there were no reports of injuries.

A spokesman said a security guard remained in place and an investigation into the incident was underway.

Police were unable to say whether the shootings were related to other recent drive-by shootings in Auckland, as the investigation is still in its early stages.

Earlier, at 3:30 p.m. Friday, police received reports of a firearm allegedly aimed from a vehicle in Gulf Harbor.

Four people have been arrested in connection with this incidentincluding a 23-year-old man charged with unlawful possession of a counterfeit firearm.

Police said on Sunday morning no one had been arrested in connection with the incidents in Ōtara and Avondale.
